More than six million Ukrainians have been forced to flee the country. Another three million are displaced inside Ukraine.
Fierce attacks continue, forcing people to flee for their lives. Homes, hospitals and schools have been destroyed. Families are sheltering in badly damaged homes or accommodation centres, desperate for the fighting to end.
In Ukraine, temperatures fall well below zero and winter storms can be deadly. As winter sets in, UNHCR anticipates that attacks on energy infrastructure will increase – leaving communities without power and heating when they are most needed.
