Held, 08 October 2021

This special live discussion focussed on the crisis in Afghanistan, with UNHCR representatives sharing how UNHCR is providing critical and life-saving assistance on the ground, and our work to protect the 3.5 million internally displaced people, many of whom are women and children.

During this online briefing we heard from Indrika Ratwatte, UNHCR Director of the Bureau for Asia and the Pacific; Ben Quilty, Australian artist and human rights advocate, who led a $6m fundraising and media campaign to support Australia for UNHCR’s Afghanistan Appeal; Babar Baloch, Senior Communications Officer for UNHCR and Mariam Veiszadeh, Afghan-born Australian lawyer and human rights advocate.
