Regular giving

Every year, thousands of people flee their homes and countries to escape conflict, violence, disaster and persecution. Hungry, thirsty and exhausted, they need help – fast.

Your regular gifts support UNHCR’s emergency response, allowing us to go straight into action. UNHCR is often first in and last out in a refugee crisis. Thanks to you, we can have our teams on the ground within 72 hours, providing desperate families with shelter, water, food, medicines and other essentials of survival.

There has never been a greater need for the work of UNHCR, with an unprecedented number of people fleeing for their lives – 79.5 million people worldwide.

Our emergency teams are trained in areas including negotiation, site planning, camp management, relief coordination, human rights and protection, shelter, water and logistics. They remain on standby, ready for immediate deployment anywhere in the world.

Last year, 12-year-old Anna woke in the middle of the night to the deafening rattle of machine guns. Her town in South Sudan was under attack.

Numb with shock, she joined a straggle of people heading for the Ethiopian border. During Anna's harrowing trek through a warzone she was weak with fever and hunger. She was lucky to survive.

Anna is in Ethiopia now and in UNHCR’s care. Here she has access to child-safe shelter, food, clean water, medical care and the counsel of a child protection officer to help her cope with her grief and trauma. Best of all for Anna, she has been able to return to school and feel like a child again.

By becoming a regular donor you can make a difference by helping UNHCR to respond quickly and help refugees like Anna who have been forced to flee.
