Over half of the Syrian population has been forcibly displaced, and the vast majority are women and children.
80 per cent of Syrian refugees are living in neighboring countries, who are simultaneously dealing with the devastating impacts of COVID-19 and extreme, cold weather conditions. Close to one million Syrian refugees, along with 4.4 million members of their host communities, have fallen into poverty since the beginning of the pandemic. 89 per cent of Syrian refugees now live in extreme poverty, compared to 55 per cent in 2019.
UNHCR is coordinating a massive regional response, negotiating with governments to ensure safe passage for people, assisting refugees at the border and coordinating relief operations in neighbouring countries. We need your help more than ever to ensure a brighter future for new generations across the region.
With 45 per cent of Syrian refugees being under 18 years old, the impact of 10 years of war are disproportionately affecting Syrian youth. Due to the economic impacts of COVID-19, many are facing increased food shortages and shelter insecurity as well as limited access to education. By the end of 2020, there had been a 9 per cent decrease in school enrolment for Syrian refugee children.
By donating today, you can help refugees have a safer, more secure future through education, and access to medical care and legal services. Your generosity will help to preserve hope and prospects for future Syrian generations.
Please help Syrian families who have lost everything.
