“I hope we’ll have enough food for the children. They are suffering a lot.”
Suraya, 22, Sudanese refugee in Chad
After more than a year of devastating conflict, people in Sudan are starving to death.
Famine has officially been confirmed in a camp for displaced people in North Darfur. A famine confirmation is very rare and only occurs after many deaths.
Since the war began in April 2023, more than 10 million people have been forced to flee. Violence is escalating, malnutrition is rampant and medical supplies are running out.
Families are desperately seeking safety and protection, both in Sudan and in neighbouring countries such as Chad, South Sudan and Egypt. But resource constraints and lack of access are hampering humanitarian relief efforts.
UNHCR teams are on the ground right now, delivering life-saving aid wherever possible. But the people of Sudan urgently need more help. Your gift can provide safe shelter, medicine, cash to buy food, and other essentials.
