Afghanistan Crisis

The people of Afghanistan are in the grip of one of the world's worst crises.

Afghanistan has suffered more than 40 years of conflict, natural disasters, chronic poverty and food insecurity. Facing an ongoing humanitarian crisis, the resilience of refugees, internally displaced people and host communities is slowly reaching its limit.

In June 2022, an earthquake in south-east Afghanistan killed at least 1,000 people and left many more injured amid large-scale destruction.

The earthquake struck Paktika and Khost provinces, where tens of thousands of people have already been displaced by conflict.

Tragically, this is just the latest in a series of emergencies to hit the country, and displaced people are among the most vulnerable.

UNHCR has been on the ground in Afghanistan for decades and continues to deliver life-saving aid, shelter and protection to people forced to flee.

Help us protect displaced families who are facing crisis after crisis.
