Afghanistan Emergency

Families are struggling to survive after devastating earthquakes flattened entire villages in western Afghanistan.

Two 6.3-magnitude earthquakes struck Herat Province on 7 and 11 October. Thousands have been killed or injured and many more have lost their homes and livelihoods.

UNHCR's dedicated teams are on the ground delivering emergency supplies, but much more support is needed. Afghan families urgently require shelter, potable water, latrines and warm clothing.

UNHCR staff on the ground report that some people are sleeping outside in fear of further tremors. Some have not eaten a warm meal since the first earthquake on 7 October.

This disaster comes on top of years of conflict, drought and economic hardship. With winter approaching, your support is vital.
