Outline & Purpose of Role:

Support UNHCR’s global emergency response to humanitarian crises. Established in 2000, A4U has raised over $460m from individual donors, philanthropists and corporates, leading to direct impact on the ground delivering emergency support such as shelter, protection, clean water, food and medicines. Australia for UNHCR also directly funds international projects that support longer-term care such as building schools, running livelihood programs and providing healthcare.

We are looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented team-player, with strong analytical, problem solving and organisational skills, keen attention to detail and the ability to quality check work and review processes, to join our Business Intelligence Unit, which works closely with our business stakeholders in the provision of data to support data-driven business decision-making in supporting our fundraising work in New Zealand and Australia.

Responsible for the implementation of data initiatives including data mining, analysis, and business intelligence reporting solutions, as well as by promoting a data aware culture throughout the organisation. The role plays a vital part in contributing to the evolving data requirements of the organisation of both New Zealand for UNHCR (NZ4U) and Australia for UNHCR (A4U) by providing data selections, developing models, data mining, analysis, and developing and maintaining reports to support fundraising requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Data & Insights, the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst’s responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a subject Matter Expert (SME) pertaining to reporting requirements, data and business Intelligence (BI) solutions for the New Zealand market
  • Providing input into the evolving development of the BI landscape within NZ4U and A4U, such as the enhancement of the data warehouses, resulting in centralized systems accurately reflecting business requirements
  • Delivering analytics on the business-critical objective of understanding how to maximise the value from our financial supporters; inclusive of optimizing the opportunity of moving supporters up the supporter pyramid and forecasting potential growth. This will be in the form of data mining, profile analysis, building analytical models and BI report authoring in Power BI or a similar reporting suite.
  • Addressing data extract requirements for direct marketing campaigns with a high degree of service; developing and refining data selections, building and checking extracts, manipulating data in preparation for bulk communications and updating records with contact history.
  • Building predictive models and segmentation models to answer key business questions and help with DM targeting.
  • Working with a range of internal and external stakeholders to satisfy their business intelligence requirements for analysis, report creation, data selections, and data mining within a strong project management framework, driving evidence-based decision making throughout the organisation.

The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:

Essential
  • 3 years’ plus experience in a similar role
  • Experience in the development, maintenance and remediation of issues relating to data models within a SQL data warehouse environment.
  • Strong database knowledge e.g. SQL, Power BI, CRM, ETL
  • Strong project management skills to deliver multiple projects on time and work autonomously in a high-pressure, deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to convert a descriptive brief into a business intelligence/analytical solution
  • An advanced understanding of how data is used for communication purposes, the process and the governing regulations / best practice guidelines.
