Outline & Purpose of Role:

Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network it has now raised more than $160 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.

We are looking for a motivated and organised Media and Communications Coordinator, to work closely with our Head of Communications & Public Affairs, to develop and implement communications activities that support the organisation’s brand building and fundraising initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and deliver PR plans to publicise fundraising appeals, events and campaigns
  • Write media releases and media materials, research story ideas, pitch ideas direct to media and respond to media requests
  • Manage administration including media clippings, reporting, KPI tracking, media list management and budget tracking etc
  • Write and coordinate key communications products (including internal communications, biographies, online content and presentations)
  • Coordinate media monitoring activities, including daily media summaries and regular media coverage reports
  • Create communications for both consumer and corporate activity
  • Coordinate speaking opportunities and conference research to support corporate communications
  • Contribute articles to our donor communications channels
  • Update and maintain information on key messages and positioning for organisation-wide use
  • Collaborate with digital and donor care coordinators to share communications content and assist with planning/ issues
  • Assist Head of Communications in the coordination of the Special Representatives program

The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:

  • Commitment to UNHCR’s vision
  • Strong understanding of Australian broadcast and consumer media
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in media, marketing or public relations
  • Communications experience in an international/not for profit environment
  • Experience developing and implementing PR/communications plans
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to liaise with and engage stakeholders and third party suppliers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced computer skills, including all Microsoft office products and ability to use databases and CRM
