Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network it has now raised more than $300 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.

The Role

We are looking for a motivated, organised and creative Islamic Philanthropy Coordinator to work closely with our Digital and Philanthropy & Partnerships teams to develop and implement initiatives to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts from donors within the Muslim community.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and develop initiatives to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts from donors as part of Zakat and Sadaqah donations.
  • Coordinate stewardship of Islamic Philanthropy donors, including implementing strategies to identify, cultivate and effectively steward donors to optimise long-term value.
  • Assist the team with donor briefings and events, including attending UNHCR’s events as appropriate to represent the organisation.
  • Assist the team in scheduling and setting objectives for individual research, cultivation, solicitation and contacts with high priority Zakat donors and prospects.
  • Implement consistent administrative processes.
  • Research projects appropriate for Zakat and Sadaqah Jariyah donors and provide written proposals for prospective donors.
  • Liaise with global team re budgetary needs and funding options, and regional IP team to share best practices and knowledge transfer
  • Prepare reports and material to present to donors.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of UNHCR’s work around the world.

Required skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification or related experience in NGO.
  • Well-developed relationship management and engagement skills with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of supporters.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially written and verbal skills. 
  • Strong internal direction and motivation, with a desire to help donors achieve personal satisfaction through their support of the organisation.   
  • Excellent time management, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including all Microsoft office products.
  • Database management skills.
  • Knowledge of International aid and development. (desirable)
  • Experience in prospect research and preparing written proposals. (desirable)
