Outline & Purpose of Role:
Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network it has now raised more than $400 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.
We are looking for a motivated, organised and innovative Direct Marketing Manager, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to join our Fundraising team. The Direct Marketing Manager is responsible for direct marketing acquisition and retention activity in Australia and New Zealand, with the key responsibility being to ensure we grow sustainable income from supporters through acquiring good quality regular donors, developing engaging retention journeys, managing appeals, testing retention projects and initiatives and growing fundraising income/net lifetime value. This position is predominantly focused on off-line channels and works with the Senior Digital Manager to align online channels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the warm appeals program, including leading the integration of the program across all channels
- Review and optimise the retention strategy regularly and prepare recommendations for innovation and optimisation for direct marketing activities
- Manage, deliver and grow donor retention campaigns for Regular Giving and cash donors, with a focus on net lifetime value , and ensuring supporter experience is central to creation and execution
- Manage all telemarketing activities, ensuring results are closely monitored and effective strategies implemented
- Work on supporter experience projects as identified by the fundraising team and wider organisation
- Drive Face to Face Agency Regular Giving acquisition campaigns in Australia & New Zealand, review activities regularly and prepare recommendations for innovation and optimisation for direct marketing activities
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver a strong acquisition mail program and integrate acquisition activities with other departments’ programs when relevant
- Perform weekly monitoring of metrics and results, highlighting areas for concern/celebration and identifying tests/solutions,and oversee monthly reporting on all direct marketing programs
- Ensure a data-driven approach is in place for decision making, with emphasis on segmentation models, donor research and data integrity.
- Provide strategic inputs, manage and prepare annual budgets and reforecasts for supporter experience activities, retention projects (incl appeals), telemarketing campaigns and Face to face agency campaigns
- Manage and develop staff to deliver consistent, high quality and successful outcomes
The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:
Essential
- Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in marketing, communications/fundraising
- Minimum five years’ experience in direct marketing with 1-2 years in a management role
- Strong understanding of supporter experience
- Prior people management experience
Desirable
- Experience working with a relational database, ideally Raiser’s Edge or a similar platform
- Experience using analytics software
- Demonstrated success in building brand awareness
- Previous employment in the not- for-profit sector (desirable)
