Outline & Purpose of Role:

Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network, it has now raised more than $160 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual with strong writing and editing skills, and the ability to assist in the creation and production of content across a variety of platforms. As a member of our Communications team, this role is responsible for assisting in delivering content that engages our donors and stakeholders, working with copywriting, photography and video.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Content Manager to produce copy and images for the annual report, all major fundraising appeals, donor magazine and the A4U website as required
  • Research, develop and write content for monthly eNews
  • Work with the Content Manager to edit and assemble monthly A4U staff news
  • Produce other donor engagement and content assets in collaboration with the Content Manager as required. This content includes but is not limited to electronic direct mail communications, letters, impact reports and marketing collateral
  • Assist with proofreading to ensure accuracy and consistency in messaging and house style
  • Work as part of a team on the development of creative concepts and content strategies
  • Coordinate image research and procurement from UNHCR global media, and manage new photography from A4U missions
  • Responsible for approving content uploads and administrative tasks related to the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system
  • Responsible for other administrative, reporting and content planning tasks as required to assist the Content Manager and support the efficient functioning of the Communications team

The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:


  • Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, media, professional or creative writing
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a content or communications role
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a strong understanding of grammar rules and conventions and the ability to write for a variety of channels and audiences
  • Detail oriented with strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to take a brief and work to deadlines, sometimes under pressure
  • Exemplary time management skills


  • Previous experience in a fundraising or not-for-profit environment
  • Experience with image research, InDesign and Premiere Pro
