Outline & Purpose of Role:

Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network it has now raised more than $160 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.

We are looking for an insightful and innovative individual with strong analytical and data-driven project management skills, and the ability to lead the development and delivery of our business intelligence strategy. This role is responsible for leading a team that delivers enterprise wide high level business intelligence and analysis, effective and consistent reporting and a high quality and robust data set, whilst supporting the organisation to maximise the value of its marketing campaigns and fundraising performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with stakeholders from across the organisation, to understand the organisation’s strategic direction and associated business intelligence and data governance needs, and develop and implement a business intelligence strategy that meets these needs.
  • Lead and develop a team responsible for the provision of high quality business intelligence and analysis, including statistical and segmentation models to aid selection, targeting and understanding of the performance of all fundraising activities.
  • Innovate and add value to the organisation by determining and raising critical business intelligence issues and by driving thoughtful insights for continuous improvement of work processes, creating optimal life time value for our programs.
  • Be a subject matter expert and strategic advisor for the organisation’s business intelligence function, working closely with the Database Manager and Senior Management to ensure the technology and systems underpinning our data sets are fit for purpose and add value to our fundraising, marketing and reporting functions.
  • Develop a roadmap of the technology and systems required for the organisation to achieve its strategic business intelligence objectives.
  • Work with key stakeholders to build the organisation’s digital analytics capabilities providing strategic input and direction.
  • Oversight the extraction of data for all internal and external reporting and analysis as required by the Deputy National Director, Fundraising Manager and others.
  • Provide input, alongside the Fundraising and Finance Managers, on all reporting requirements, including the Annual Strategic Plan, Leading Indicator Report and quarterly progress reports to UNHCR, as well as financial reforecasting and budgeting activities.

The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:


Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics or similar
  • A minimum of 5 years in a business intelligence role involving reporting, analysis, information technology, digital analytics, knowledge and project management, preferably in the NFP and/or international aid sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing an organisational wide business intelligence strategy that contributes to organisational performance and results in high level analysis, reporting and a robust data set.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and stakeholder relationship management skills, including the ability to understand, liaise and build effective working relationships within the organisation.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of business intelligence and analytical tools, as well as knowledge of CRM and data warehouse systems and data management processes, on both a strategic and operational level.
  • Demonstrated experience at a senior level in data driven marketing and data analysis, including helping to drive marketing strategy, interpreting business requests and extracting relevant data from large and complex data sets.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a high performing business intelligence team and in mentoring and coaching staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and advanced analytical skills; ability to draw insights from analysis of raw data, including propensity models and analysis, preferably applied in a fundraising context.
  • Extensive experience working with a relational database, ideally Raiser’s Edge or a similar platform.
