International Chamber of Commerce Secretary-General John W.H. Denton AO announced as Patron of Australia for UNHCR

Australia for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner for Australia, has confirmed the appointment of John W.H. Denton AO as its Patron.

Mr Denton is Secretary-General of the Paris based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the world’s leading business organisation. Throughout his career, Mr Denton has worked to engage the private sector to support humanitarian relief for refugees. Prior to leading the ICC, he was the founding Chairman of Australia for UNHCR and this new appointment continues his longstanding association with the organisation.

Australia for UNHCR is responsible for engaging corporates, communities and individuals to support UNHCR’s global relief operations for people fleeing conflict. Since launching in 2000, Australia for UNHCR has raised over $250m to support displaced people and last year helped UNHCR deliver humanitarian aid in 53 countries.

Australia for UNHCR Chairman, Michael Dwyer, said: “We are delighted that John will become our Patron. His dedication to the refugee cause and his valuable counsel helped inform the profound growth of our organisation since our inception and mobilised support from many quarters.”

Mr Denton said: “Australia for UNHCR continues to play a pivotal role in engaging Australia’s private sector to support humanitarian relief work. I’m delighted to become its Patron and encourage its work further as UNHCR responds to unprecedented global displacement.”
