The National Folk Festival will livestream its opening and closing concerts on Good Friday and Easter Monday, with 100% of the income going to support Australia for UNHCR’s Emergency Ukraine Appeal.

Kate Ceberano, Archie Roach, Katie Noonan, Neil Murray, Emma Donovan, Parvyn, Tenzin Choegyal and The Phoenix Collective are among the performers taking part in this special partnership.

Australia for UNHCR’s National Director, Naomi Steer, welcomed the fundraising initiative, saying such support is making an important difference in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe.

“More than 11 million people, a quarter of Ukraine’s population, have been displaced by the conflict since it began less than two months ago,” Ms Steer said.

“Men, women and children are in desperate need of help right now, and the UN Refugee Agency is working incredibly hard both inside Ukraine and in neighbouring countries to provide life-saving aid.”

“I am grateful for the generous support of musicians, artists and all Australians at this critical time. Your ticket purchase will help provide emergency aid items, cash assistance, and protection and counselling for those in need.”

Acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter, Katie Noonan, is the artistic director of the National Folk Festival and is behind the fundraising appeal.

“I can’t imagine living through the savagery of war, but what I can do is use my networks to help those who are,” Ms Noonan said.

“We can use our words and sounds to lift our collective hearts and stand in solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine.”
