Pakistan

Pakistan Your Funds In ActionAustralians responded very generously to our Emergency Appeal for Pakistan.

Donors like you allowed Australia for UNHCR to send more than $1 million towards UNHCR's emergency relief efforts - the most we have ever raised for any single crisis appeal.

The emergency: More than 21 million people were affected by the worst floods in Pakistan's history. Some 1700 people died and millions are still homeless. Livestock, homes, towns, and livelihoods were washed away in what was described as a "tsunami in slow motion".

UNHCR's role: UNHCR was the co-lead agency for shelter, aid distribution and camp management in the United Nations' joint response to the crisis, distributing emergency shelter and relief items for the flood victims.

Relief provided: Thanks to your generous donations, the UN Refugee Agency has delivered aid and shelter materials to more than 1.7 million people, and is continuing to provide ongoing support to the affected population.

With your support, we have distributed:

  • 167,000 tents to shelter 952,000 people
  • 321,000 plastic sheets to shelter 850,000 people
  • 1,175,000 blankets for over 300,000 families
  • 596,000 quilts for more than 1.5 million people
  • 184,000 kitchen sets for 1.3 million people
  • 192,000 mosquito nets for 535,000 people
  • 762,000 jerry cans and plastic buckets for 1.2 million people
  • 473,000 sleeping mats for 703,000 people
  • 164,000 bars of soap for more than one million people
