Photo Gallery Kakuma Refugee Camp

Kakuma Refugee Settlement in north-west Kenya is home to around 84,000 refugees. This is one of many camps in the region that provide shelter, food, water and health services to the almost 9 million Africans who have been displaced by conflict. Resources, however, are stretched as more refugees continue to arrive on a daily basis.

Australia for UNHCR has provided funds for food, water, shelter and medical care for many refugee camps in Africa, including Kakuma in Kenya, as well as refugee camps in Uganda, Somalia, Sudan, Chad and Ethiopia.

As Kakuma is located in the north-west corner of Kenya in a semi-arid desert environment, ensuring refugees have access to safe and clean water is a constant challenge.
