10 Years In Review Youth sports programs

Sport plays an important role in rebuilding communities shattered and demoralised by war and conflict. In 2001, Australia for UNHCR funded a major sports program targeting young people in Timor-Leste.

This program, which also received support from the Australian government, funded the rehabilitation of sports facilities in Bacau, the rehabilitation of two schools and the provision of two Australian coaches who worked with the local community. Australian donors have since supported a number of other youth related programs including the creation of a new youth centre with computers in Ifo Camp in Dadaab, Kenya.
