Approximately 33% of refugee children do not attend school, and girls in particular have low rates of enrolment. Australia for UNHCR's donors have helped to increase school attendance in refugee camps, funding school construction and maintenance projects, providing books and other learning resources and supporting teacher training. Donors have helped to provide Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda with the first ever secondary school, and helped to maintain and equip 75 schools in Chad.

PricewaterhouseCoopers celebrated its ten year anniversary by raising $US4m globally to provide school infrastructure and other resources over three years for more than 30,000 Darfurian refugees currently in four refugee camps in eastern Chad.

Of the one million displaced children in Colombia, only half are enrolled in school. UNHCR is assisting classroom enrollment by rebuilding damaged schools, providing school supplies and supporting local teachers organisations.
