Volunteer/Intern

Volunteer intern imageOur office is deeply indebted to the fantastic work done by our volunteers and interns who provide invaluable help with various administrative tasks and research projects in the Sydney office.

We're always on the lookout for more helping hands who want to make a difference, so if you feel confident performing some of the tasks detailed below and are able to dedicate a minimum of three hours a week for two months or more, please e-mail us your CV and availability. Please include previous volunteer experience, if any, and why you have chosen Australia for UNHCR to dedicate your time to.

Key volunteer tasks:

  • Phoning donors to update details
  • Phoning new donors to welcome them to the organisation
  • Preparing mail-outs
  • Filing
  • Basic word processing and computer tasks

Skills required:

  • Previous experience in customer service
  • Previous experience of working in an administrative or office environment would be an advantage
  • Effective communication and listening skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Maturity, reliability and an ability to seek advice/assistance

Training:

  • Volunteers will be given a relevant induction to the organisation
  • Training will be provided on an ongoing basis

Internships

We're always looking for people who are passionate about and committed to highlighting the plight of refugees around the world. Internships are available predominantly in our Communications team.

We also have a formal internship program through the Bachelor of International Studies at the University of Sydney.

The United Nations has a volunteer arm known as UNV that mobilises qualified UN volunteers and interns, and encourages people to become active in volunteering in their countries.
