About Nakivale Refugee Settlement
Years of conflict in countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia have forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes with nothing. Some 56,000 of them currently live in Nakivale refugee settlement in southwest Uganda, and nearly half the population are children. Many of the children are unable to attend school, as there is a desperate shortage of teachers and classrooms. They are also forced to walk up to 5km every day to collect water for their families, and if they are sick, the nearest hospital is a two hour drive away in one of just two ambulances. The UN Refugee Agency is working to provide the children of Nakivale with a safe and happy environment, and the chance to build a better future - but they need the help of Australian donors to do it. Just $27 can provide anti-malarial medication for 15 refugee children. $80 can pay a teacher's salary for one month, giving children the chance to learn and grow. Buy your life-saving gift now!
