Sophie took on the role of Special Youth Representative in 2004 following her winning entry in UNHCR's annual Writing Competition, "Refugees Telling Their Stories". After meeting young Sudanese refugee Adut Dau Atem, the subject of her winning entry, she decided whilst still in primary school that she would do what she could to help refugees and displaced people. Now a young woman, she has spoken at schools, public forums, events, conferences and business meetings about how young Australians can help to save and change the lives of refugees for the better.
