National Director - Naomi Steer

Naomi is the founding National Director of Australia for UNHCR.

She has significant experience in international relations, human rights, industrial relations & communications.

She brings this wide-ranging advocacy and international experience and a strong commitment to improving the situation of refugees to her work with UNHCR.  Since setting up UNHCR's Australian fundraising operations in 2000 she has travelled to many refugee situations including Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Chad and Uganda to speak with and record the stories of refugees.  To mark Australia for UNHCR 10th Anniversary she climbed Mt Kenya to raise funds for UNHCR's Safe Mother and Baby programs in Somalia.

She has a BA (Hons - Political Science) and an LLB from the University of New South Wales and is a graduate of the Harvard University Executive program.
